30 Rock returns tonight, back from its strike hiatus. In anticipation, I watched the Green Week episode on Hulu. I’m happy to report that it is still the funniest 30 minutes of television since Arrested Development.

Also — Hulu is fantastic. Yeah, there are advertisements that you have to sit through, but that’s a small price to pay for all the content. I was positive that the networks would cripple the functionality when they finally released this thing, but that’s so very much not the case. This is a slick and completely enjoyable way to watch television online.

Some new characters on FNL

On tonight’s episode of Friday Night Lights, two new characters were introduced within minutes of each of other — the first, none other than Weevil from Veronica Mars; the second, Logan from Gilmore Girls.

It’s always jarring to realize that you watch so much television that you can instantly pick out faces in a crowd.

I should be used to it at this point. Every year, just before kickoff of the first football game of the season, Nike rolls out a new commercial for its gridiron line. They’re always visually arresting. They’re always envelope-pushingly creative. And they never fail to get me jacked up.

This year is no exception. The damn thing is directed by Michael F’ing Mann. It’s set to the song “Promentory” by Trevor Jones — you might recognize it from the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack. And the last frame left me jumping out of my seat, fist in the air.
